Amid escalating tensions along the India-Pakistan border, northern states have swung into full emergency mode. Following precision strikes by Indian forces on terror camps across the border, authorities in Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh have enforced urgent shutdowns to ensure public safety.
In Punjab, life came to a standstill in key border districts. Schools across Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Amritsar, and Gurdaspur were ordered closed immediately. In Pathankot, authorities announced a 72-hour school shutdown to safeguard students and staff. Officials stressed that these closures are precautionary but crucial, given the volatile situation at the frontier.
Rajasthan, too, faces heightened alertness. With a 1,070 km-long international boundary adjoining Pakistan, the state has taken no chances. Both government and private schools have been shuttered in Ganganagar, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, and Barmer. Furthermore, airports in Bikaner and Jodhpur have temporarily suspended operations. Local officials confirmed that mock drills have been prepared to respond swiftly to any emergencies.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh has issued a red alert across the state under “Operation Sindoor.” The Uttar Pradesh Police, under the leadership of the Director General of Police (DGP), emphasized robust coordination with Defence forces. Key government installations and public areas are under intensified surveillance. In an official statement, UP Police assured citizens that security forces remain fully alert, equipped, and ready to protect every life.
Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, targeted nine strategic terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Among the major targets were Jaish-e-Mohammad’s Bahawalpur base and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s stronghold in Muridke. The operation was a direct retaliation for the horrific Pahalgam massacre, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians, leaving the nation in mourning and anger.
The immediate aftermath of the strikes has seen a flurry of defensive measures across northern India. Closure of educational institutions, airport shutdowns, and a visible presence of security forces underline the gravity of the current security landscape.
