The recently released mass-action entertainer, Daku Maharaj, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna and directed by Kolli Bobby, is creating waves at the box office. Released on January 12th, the film received overwhelmingly positive reviews from its very first show and has been racing ahead in collections ever since. Even after four days, theaters in regions like the Godavari districts and Ceded areas are adding late-night shows to meet audience demand, underlining the film’s unprecedented craze.
With Daku Maharaj, Balakrishna is aiming for a double hat trick after his prior successes with Akhanda, Veera Simha Reddy, and Bhagavanth Kesari.

The movie collected ₹92 crores within its first three days and is rapidly moving toward the ₹200-crore gross mark. Balakrishna’s stylish portrayal and Bobby’s innovative direction have been lauded by critics and fans alike.
Interestingly, Daku Maharaj was initially conceptualized for Ravi Teja. Kolli Bobby, who debuted as a director with Ravi Teja’s Power, narrated this story to the actor during the making of Krack. However, Ravi Teja was hesitant, citing similarities to his earlier film Kick 2, which did not perform well at the box office. Despite Bobby’s assurances that this project was highly commercial and unique, Ravi Teja declined.

At the time, Ravi Teja was juggling multiple projects and deferred the decision to a later date. Meanwhile, Bobby moved on to direct Waltair Veerayya with Chiranjeevi before pitching Daku Maharaj to Balakrishna, who immediately greenlit the project. The result is a massive hit, leaving many to wonder if Ravi Teja’s career trajectory might have changed had he taken up this project.
Ravi Teja, currently dealing with a string of flops, has struggled to generate buzz among audiences. Known for his ability to deliver ₹100-crore hits, Ravi Teja’s recent choices in scripts and projects have not lived up to expectations.
